Comparing Covers

We compared two covers of the same book - Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets. One was the children's version which were a lot more colourful and eye catching to younger readers. The other cover was an adult version which was more dull and plain.

Cover 1 - Children's cover
This cover has very bright colours on it, including colours that would instantly resemble the character such as reds, yellows and greens. It also features a picture of the main character and a train which is mentioned in the book. The picture is cartoon which straight away would grab a young persons eye because it is much more appealing to the younger audience. Some young people also like to read books that look 'easy' and because of the pictures and colours this book looks a lot simpler than the second cover.

Cover 2 - Adults cover
This cover is very dull because its all grey, apart from a block at the top and the writing which is red and stand out to catch the eye of the reader. This is more for adults because they prefer to get a book that they can read other than get a book because of how it looks, obviously the book has to look a bit interesting so this front cover has just one plain picture of a steam train on it, this makes it look more mysterious because it doesn't really give anything away in the book.
